Rant: Republican Hypocrisy

Posted on September 7, 2008 in: Media, Politics

Politics isn’t about fighting fair but it’s fair game to point out hypocrisy when you see it.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is the Republican Party’s new messiah. I suppose they can’t use that line of attack against the Democrats anymore. But don’t be surprised if they do.

WHY IS IT OK to question whether Barack Obama’s experience is adequate for him to be president but not OK to ask the same about Sarah Palin’s? Think I’m just being a partisan liberal? Then watch The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart hoist Karl Rove on his own petard by contrasting Rove’s critique a couple weeks ago of a potential Obama vice-presidential pick with his praise last week for Palin’s selection for VP by McCain.

And why is it OK for commentators to cast aspersions against Obama with faint praise about how good a speaker he is, but how we shouldn’t let his rhetorical skills overshadow his inexperience? Then they turn around and claim that Palin’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention “proved” her ability to be vice president (and, ostensibly, president since you’d think you wouldn’t want a vice president who couldn’t take over if something happened to the president. You’d think.).
