Election 2008

Celebrating Obama’s victory in Chicago’s Grant Park.

With the passing of Election Day, the Cosmic Sitcom™ returns to its normally scheduled site architecture. The Blog page becomes the default entry page to the Web site, and the Election Page is archived. For now. That doesn’t mean I’ll stop posting about politics; those posts will just appear as normal on the Blog page.

The Republican recriminations begin. It ain’t pretty. McCain aides blast Palin for not knowing Africa’s a continent and which countries are part of NAFTA. The most incisive Republican writing I’ve found so far: thenextright.com.

November 4 — ELECTION DAY
Barack Obama has won. Wow.

Kai Wright reported from Richmond, Va., for theroot.com. His picture is today’s picture of the day from a polling site he describes as “one of the most jammed up in Richmond.”

At The Root, my friend Kai Wright outlines five ways to protect your vote from Republican intimidation at the polls tomorrow.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this is the watershed election of my adult life. It’s a shame that it’s taking a near-Depression to jolt voters into thinking about their election choices instead of being fooled by Karl Rove tactics into voting against their own self-interest.

Even so, I remain baffled by Sarah Palin’s continuing (though justifiably diminished) popularity. The woman can’t string two sentences together without someone scripting her. She’s demonstrably ignorant. She’s also hawt. Is that really enough to sustain her?

Though I’m certain she won’t ever be vice president, I’m betting we’ll see her reappear as Senator Palin in not too long, thanks to Ted Stevens’ impending implosion. Meanwhile, she continues to be her own worst enemy.

» An historic win, yes, but bear some things in mind …

» Why optimism trumps answers at this point in the financial crisis.

» What’s keeping those undecided voters from making up their minds?

» Florida TV reporter “grills” Biden with illogical questions intended to falsely portray Obama as a socialist.

» You really think Republicans are all about lowering taxes and cutting spending? You’re only half right.
